Former Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has publicly rejected reports suggesting he quit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet over an alleged plan involving the Nigerian government and the Donald Trump administration in the United States.
The speculation, which spread across several online platforms, claimed the former minister left office because he could not support alleged foreign military actions supposedly targeted at “Christians in Nigeria.”
The story gained attention overnight, prompting a swift response from Badaru.
In a statement he personally signed and circulated electronically, titled “Rejoinder: Categorical Denial Of Malicious Publication Regarding My Resignation As Minister of Defence,” Badaru said the claims were fabricated and aimed at misleading the public.
He stated, “My attention has been drawn to a malicious, false, and baseless publication circulating online, alleging that I stated I resigned as Minister of Defence because I ‘cannot stand and watch the US and Tinubu government bombing our brothers in the forest.’”
According to him, the content being shared never originated from him nor from anyone authorised to speak on his behalf.
He further stressed that the motive behind the publication was to damage his image and create tension between him and President Tinubu.
Badaru explained that he had already informed the President about his genuine reasons for stepping aside, and those reasons had been openly communicated through regular media channels.
The former minister said any attempt to link his exit to foreign military plans or religious tensions was completely unfounded.
He described the story as a calculated attempt to stir unnecessary controversy and distract the government at a time national security remains a priority.
Badaru reiterated his loyalty to the President, the APC leadership, and the administration’s policies.
He vowed to continue supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda and expressed confidence in the government’s direction as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
He said, “The intent behind this fabrication is clear: to tarnish my hard-earned reputation, sow discord between me and the Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and create needless distractions from the important work of governance.”
He added that he remains committed to peace, security, and political stability in the country.
Badaru closed his statement by reaffirming his allegiance to the ruling party and expressing readiness to contribute to the party’s future successes.
