Sullivan Chime, a former governor of Enugu State has commended Governor Peter Mbah over his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chime in a post on his social media account described Mbah’s move to the ruling party as a political realignment and not betrayal as believed by many people from Enugu, the governor’s supporters and allies.
“Political realignment is not betrayal; it is the courage to follow vision when old paths can no longer carry the dream,” Chime said.
In 2016, shortly after the end of his tenure as governor of Enugu state, Chime officially dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.
The former governor had at the time described the PDP as a “dead party” while highlighting some of the leadership crisis that rocked the party.
Recall that Governor Mbah of Enugu State officially announced his defection from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday, October 14.
Mbah while speaking at a press conference in Enugu said his decision to leave the PDP is aimed at creating greater opportunities for Enugu and her people by aligning with the power at the centre.
He also appreciated the PDP for providing him with the structure and platform for which he won the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Mbah joined the APC alongside his commissioners and thousands of key supporters in the state.
Other key personalities who defected to the APC with Mbah include the immediate past governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, some members of the National and State Assembly, former PDP executives, local government chairmen and members of the State Executive Council, among others.
