The former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly during the Adamu Aliero administration, Samaila Kamba, has officially declared his intention to contest the Kebbi North Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kamba, who rejoined the ruling APC a few months ago after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his decision to run for the Senate is driven by his desire to build on his past achievements and contribute to the human capacity development agenda of Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi State.
In his statement, Kamba emphasised that his experience as a former speaker and lawmaker will enable him to contribute positively to nation-building and ensure that his constituents benefit from his work in the Senate.
Kamba said, “Reaching thousands of my constituents will only be possible from the Senate. I believe my experience as a lawmaker will enable me to contribute positively to the growth of this great nation.”
Reflecting on his return to the APC, Kamba explained that he made the decision after assessing the progress made by Governor Nasir Idris in running the affairs of the state.
Kamba further stated, “I joined the APC at my own time, not at the expense of anybody. I am an adult and a bona fide Nigerian, therefore I can take any decision I deem fit, and immediately I got satisfied with the current happenings in the state, I joined to contribute my quota.”
Before rejoining the APC, Kamba was a prominent member of the PDP in Kebbi, where he enjoyed significant support and was known for his strong political following.
Kamba will be vying for the Senate seat currently held by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, a third-term senator and former majority leader, who represents Kebbi North in the upper legislative chamber.
