Kelechi Iheanacho made history during his time in the English Premier League with Leicester City…

Former Leicester City and Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers has backed Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho to hit top form at Celtic, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old moved to Sevilla on a three-year deal from the King Power Stadium last summer, but his time in Spain didn’t go well.

After six months without a league goal in Seville, Iheanacho returned to the EFL Championship, signing a loan deal with Middlesbrough, with an option for a permanent transfer included.

However, the former Manchester City forward scored one goal and provided two assists with the Boro as Micheal Carrick’s team missed out on the Championship play-offs.

Following two consecutive poor seasons for Iheanacho, he’s now been re-united with his former Coach, Brendan Rodgers at the Celtic Park.

Iheanacho’s best individual season came under the former Liverpool coach in the 2020/2021 season as the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner scored 19 goals and provided six assists in 39 games across all competitions for Leicester City.

Rodgers lifted the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield in his time at the King Power Stadium, and has backed Iheanacho to gun for those levels of success in Scotland.

“I know Kelechi so well and I know what he can bring to the team,” the manager told the Celtic website.

“He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work rate.

“I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings.

“He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team,” the 52-year-old concluded.

Iheanacho’s arrival goes some way to replenishing the Celtic strike force following the sale of centre-forwards Kyogo Furuhashi in January and Adam Idah on Monday.

It is widely expected that Iheanacho will be the leading striker at Celtic as he looks to get his career back on track.
