The former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, Comrade Fahad Madori, has passed away.
Naijaonpoint reports that the development was confirmed on Monday by the current NUJ State Council Chairman, Comrade Samaila Ibrahim Dutse, who disclosed that Madori died in the late hours of Sunday, June 6, 2025, at his residence in Malam Madori town, Jigawa State.
Madori died at the age of 55. Until his death, Madori was a seasoned journalist and a respected voice in Jigawa State’s media landscape.
He served as a staff member of the Jigawa State Ministry of Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, where he worked as an Information Officer overseeing Birniwa and Kirikasamma Local Government Areas.
He was also a notable member of the Advisory Committee of the NUJ Jigawa Council and was widely admired for his consistent contributions to journalism and unionism in northern Nigeria.
Madori has since been laid to rest in his hometown of Malam Madori, in accordance with Islamic burial rites. He is survived by his wife and four children.
The NUJ Zone A expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Madori’s death as a major blow to the journalism community.
In a condolence message signed by the Secretary of NUJ Zone A, Abdulrazak Bello Kaura, the union extended sympathies to the NUJ National President, Alhassan Usman, the National Secretariat, the Jigawa State Government, the bereaved family, and the entire NUJ fraternity.
“The death of Comrade Fahad is a monumental loss to the NUJ family. He was a dedicated journalist, a fearless advocate for press freedom, and a unifying force in our profession. We pray that Almighty Allah grants his soul eternal rest in Jannatul Firdausi,” the condolence message read.
In a separate statement, the Jigawa State NUJ Council hailed the deceased as more than a journalist, describing him as a committed unionist who championed the cause of truth, professionalism, and media solidarity.
According to the council’s secretary, Comrade Aisha Ahmed, Madori’s leadership as NUJ Chairman was marked by “integrity, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of journalists.”
“His tenure will be remembered for elevating the standard of journalism practice in Jigawa and fostering unity within the media community. His legacy remains indelible,” the statement added.
