Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing economic policies that he said improved access to funds for local governments across the country.
Adediran made the commendation after a closed-door meeting with the President at his Lagos residence during the Christmas holiday.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Jandor described his engagement with Tinubu as insightful, noting that the President emphasised the importance of alignment between the Federal Government and the states.
“I had the privilege of conferring with Mr President during his Christmas holiday in Lagos during which we had an insightful discussion,” Adediran said.
“His perspective was invaluable as he expressed the need for continued alignment of vision between the Centre and the component States.”
Adediran, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is now a chieftain of the ruling party, said he briefed the President on the performance of local government administrations in Lagos State, particularly their achievements within their first 100 days in office.
According to him, improved access to funds from the federation account has enabled councils in the state to embark on visible development projects.
“Having participated in some of our Local Governments’ 100-day celebration, I reported to Mr. President the efforts our Local Government administrations in Lagos State are making with the resources released to them from the federation account,” he said.
“Local Governments in Lagos now commission roads, health centres, customary courts, and other developmental projects in just 100 days in office.”
Jandor attributed the improved performance of councils to what he described as Tinubu’s courageous economic reforms and insistence on accountability in public finance management.
“I appreciated him for implementing courageous economic policies and accountability that made it easy for governments at the grassroots to have access to more funds,” he added.
Naijaonpoint reports that the former PDP governorship candidate, who finished a distant third in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, had in October declared his intention to contest the seat again in 2027.
He also expressed confidence that President Tinubu would secure a decisive victory in the 2027 presidential election, citing what he described as the growing reach and consolidation of the President’s political influence across the country.
