Nazif, a former senator representing Bauchi North, announced his defection in a statement on Friday, citing extensive consultations and the desire to align with the will of the people. “This decision comes after extensive consultation and in response to the admonition of the people whose voices I have always valued and respected throughout my political journey,” he stated. Nazif reaffirmed his commitment to democracy and nation-building, saying he joined the SDP to promote a stronger political platform that upholds democratic principles and improves leadership recruitment in Nigeria. A former member of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BoT), Nazif’s exit adds to the growing wave of defections from the party amid its ongoing internal crisis.
