Former Secretary to the Government of Rivers State, Dr Tammy Danagogo, has spoken publicly following reports linking him to an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The reports, which circulated widely on some online platforms, also mentioned Pastor Tombari Joseph Gbeneol and other unnamed individuals.
The allegations suggested that the former Rivers State official was involved in a coordinated plan targeting the former Rivers governor.
Reacting to the claims, Danagogo issued a strong denial. He dismissed the reports as false and misleading.
His response was conveyed in a statement released on Monday and signed by his Special Assistant, Obele Briggs.
According to the statement, Danagogo described the allegations as “baseless, false, and deliberately fabricated.” He stressed that he has never been part of any discussion, meeting, or arrangement connected to violence or assassination.
The former Sports Minister maintained that he has no link whatsoever to the claims being pushed online.
He insisted that the story was manufactured to damage his image and drag him into a controversy he knows nothing about.
Part of the statement reads, “The claims, which are being circulated on certain online platforms, are false, malicious, and deliberately crafted to smear my hard-earned reputation, mislead the public, and drag his name into issues he knows absolutely nothing about.”
Danagogo further presented himself as a law-abiding citizen who has served Rivers State and the country responsibly. The statement noted that he has consistently upheld the rule of law throughout his years in public service and private life.
He was also described as a peace-loving individual who believes in democratic processes and lawful engagement. The statement emphasized that violence is completely against his personal values and political history.
Addressing another aspect of the reports, Danagogo denied claims that he is currently on the run. He stated clearly that he is not evading authorities and has no reason to do so.
He added that he is willing to cooperate fully with security agencies. According to him, he is ready to honour any invitation from the police or any other lawful investigative body if required.
The statement urged members of the public to ignore what it described as “unfounded and mischievous reports.” It added that the story exists only in the imagination of those spreading it.
Danagogo warned that the continued circulation of such claims could heighten political tension unnecessarily and misinform the public.
