The senatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for Abia Central District in the 2023 general elections, Chuku Wachuku, has resigned his membership of the party.
His notice of resignation dated 20 June and addressed to the Chairman of the party in
Ward 10 Umuomainta Mbawsi, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia State acknowledged the role the party played during the pursuit of his political ambition.
He thanked his followers and supporters across Abia Central District and Abia for their genuine commitment and support over this period.
The former National Directorate of Employment (NDE) boss however called on his supporters to remain calm noting that in the coming days and weeks ahead, he shall, after wide consultations, make known his next political move to his esteemed followers, supporters and all those who look up to me for leadership.
The letter reads, “Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from the Young Progressives Party – YPP effective immediately.
“I thank you and the entire party structure for the opportunity and platform provided by the party to seek election into the Nigerian Senate during the 2023 general elections.
“Similarly, I most sincerely thank my numerous followers and supporters across Abia Central District and of course Abians at large for your genuine commitment and support over this period.
“In the days and weeks ahead, I shall, after wide consultations, make known my next line of action, to my followers, supporters and all those who look up to me for leadership”.
Recall that just last month the leadership of the party in Abia State formally collapsed its structures into the Labour Party under Governor Alex Otti, marking the end of YPP’s political structure in the state.
With the YPP’s key figures now firmly in the fold of Otti’s Labour Party faction, the party’s future in Abia remains uncertain, as grassroots members await further directives on their political fate.
