Last week, we brought you renders of the Google Pixel 8a in all of the new colors: Obsidian, Mint, Porcelain, and Bay. Now, we’re back with some new high-resolution renders that look simply incredible.
These images don’t show us a lot of new things about the Pixel 8a, but they do look incredible especially the Bay and Mint colors. In the gallery below, you can also see the Bay Pixel 8a in the Bay Silicon case, which looks absolutely amazing, similar to the Pixel 8 Pro in the matching Bay case. If you love that color and want something cheaper than the Pixel 8 Pro, it looks like the Pixel 8a is going to be the one to get this year.
Google is expected to launch the Pixel 8a at Google I/O last month. Typically, the Pixel A-series goes official at Google I/O, with the exception of a couple of years due to the pandemic. Google I/O is taking place on May 14 and 15 this year, returning to a two-day event. We’re expecting to see a lot of AI announcements at the event, but there could be a hardware announcement, too – Pixel 8a. Unfortunately, we aren’t expecting to see the Pixel 9 series launched at I/O, nor the Pixel Fold 2 or Pixel Tablet 2.
Lining up to remain the best sub-$500 smartphone
When the Pixel 3a first launched, it was an impressive sub-$400 phone, coming at around $329 for the regular Pixel 3a and $379 for the Pixel 3a XL. Over the years, we’ve seen a few price increases, with the most recent one coming last year with the Pixel 7a. Now, with the Pixel 8a, we are expecting it to remain at $499. That would make it one of the best sub-$500 smartphones, if not the best.
With the Pixel 8a, we’re expecting a good number of specs to remain the same this year. That includes a 6.1-inch FHD+ 90Hz display, Tensor G3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, along with a 4500mAh capacity battery that will charge at up to 20W wired and 7.5W wireless.
Google’s Pixel 8a is expected to stick with the 64-megapixel main camera sensor, along with a 13-megapixel ultrawide, leaving out the telephoto lens again. It will also launch with Android 14, and obviously get updated to Android 15. In fact, we expect it to follow the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro with 7 years of updates too.
