Turkey captain Hakan Calhanoglu has denied rumours of a move to Bayern Munich, saying he is “extremely happy” at Inter Milan, Soccernet.football reports.

The midfielder has been linked to the German club, with reports suggesting a €70m bid was imminent. Born and raised in Germany, such a move would bring Calhanoglu back home.

However, he addressed the speculation on social media on Monday evening.

“Regarding the rumours in the media, I want to make my position clear. My focus has been on leading the Turkish National Team for EURO 2024, so I haven’t commented until now,” he said.

“I am extremely happy at Inter Milan. I have a special relationship with the club and our incredible fans. We’ve achieved significant milestones together, and I’m looking forward to winning more trophies with Inter.”

“Right now, my concentration is on making my country proud.”

He concluded with “Forza Inter. Calha.”

Calhanoglu’s statement firmly shuts down the Bayern Munich rumours. The 30-year-old joined Inter in 2021 after leaving AC Milan and has thrived, particularly under coach Simone Inzaghi, who has used him as a deep-lying playmaker.

While Calhanoglu has no plans to leave, it remains to be seen if Inter can resist substantial offers for him.
