FAAN, CIAP train journalists

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies, has trained aviation journalists on effective reporting of the sector.

At the training, held in Lagos, aviation stakeholders took turns to bring their experience in the sector to the fore.

Speaking at the training, Managing Director, FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, said that aviation, being a technical sector, required knowledgeable journalists for effective and accurate reportage.

She added that personal development was necessary to propel individuals to rise to become leaders.

Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, explained that the essence of the workshop was to foster a relationship between the journalists and FAAN.

She stated that continuous personal development was necessary for everyone, including the media, hoping that the training would bring a new vista to aviation reporting by the media.

Her words, “Without continuous personal development, you will be rotten, you will be stuck, you will be stagnant; so, education is the fuel that drives every leader.

“When you talk about leadership, education is one of the key factors that propel every leader to the next level, and we are all leaders.

“We have passengers at our airports every day; we are to give them good customer service. If we are to give them quality service, you need to have the right training and the right skills.”

A professor of strategy and development, Anthony Kila, stated that the media was critical to the development of the aviation industry in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

“The best way to make users aware of the sector is to go through the media so that when they consume or read articles, they become informed,” he said.

Commending the FAAN MD, the former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr. Mike Omeri, extolled her vision and drive to reposition the agency.
