Fact-Finding Committee Reveals Jigawa Suffered ₦5 Billion Loss During #EndBadGovernance Protests

The Jigawa State Government has confirmed that properties worth an estimated ₦5 billion were damaged during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests in August 2024.

Chairman of the fact-finding committee, Barrister Bello Fanini, made the revelation while presenting the committee’s findings to Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse on Tuesday night.

Fanini, who is also the state’s Commissioner for Justice, noted that the losses affected federal, state, and local government properties, as well as private assets.

According to the report, the Federal Government and its agencies lost ₦1.7 billion, Jigawa State Government’s losses totaled ₦2.8 billion, private individuals and companies faced ₦700.7 million in losses, Local Government Council lost ₦300.64 million, and the APC Political Party’s loss amounted to ₦49.590 million.

The committee’s report included several recommendations aimed at preventing future incidents, urging the government to provide compensation or assistance to individuals and businesses that suffered losses during the unrest.

Additionally, the committee highlighted the importance of improving public awareness about government policies and programs, pointing out gaps that were uncovered during the investigation.

Governor Namadi thanked the committee for their thorough work and assured that the government would consider and act on their recommendations.

He underscored the importance of safeguarding both lives and property throughout the state.
