Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has taken a swipe at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), over the proposed review of salaries for political office holders.

Naijaonpoint reports that RMAFC had proposed an increase for politicians’ salaries.

However, the senior lawyer, while featuring on ‘Sunrise Daily’, a programme on Channels Television, on Tuesday, described the development as insensitive in light of the country’s current economic realities.

He said, “I want to believe that the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, has not taken cognisance of the living standards in the country, particularly the harrowing experience of ordinary people.

“Majority of our people are suffering. Going by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, we have more than 133 million people that are multidimensionally poor.

“It is insensitive therefore for any agency of government, particularly RMAFC, to suggest an upward review of the emoluments of public officers.”

Meanwhile, Femi Falana has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prove that they are not terrorist organisations.

Recall that a Canadian Federal Court had described both parties as entities that have engaged in conduct amounting to terrorism under Canadian law.

The judge, Justice Phuong Ngo, made the declaration while dismissing the asylum appeal of a Nigerian, Douglas Egharevba, ruling that Nigeria’s two main political parties, APC and PDP, were “terrorist organisations” because they allegedly use violence, coercion and subversion of democratic institutions in their bid to acquire political power.
