Fallout Legends Finally Releasing After 10 Years

As someone who has been part of various modding communities, people’s work on Fallout is a thing of beauty. The setting is already ripe for player-created scenarios, including a whopper that has just been released.Over on Nexus Mods, you can pick up Fallout Legends, which is the culmination of a decade of hard work. It’s also an “all-stars” setting for all of Fallout, which is perfect for any fan, from the classic era through the most recent mainline release of Fallout 4.

Fallout Legends is a seriously impressive mod in terms of scope, spanning multiple eras of Fallout, all the way back to the originalgame. As an add-on for Fallout 3, it adds “lore-friendly” content. Think about things like old-school-styled Power Armor, fleshed-out factions, and even things like The Institute from Fallout 4 popping up in Rivet City.

Here is everything it includes in detail:

  • The Institute (Fallout 4)
  • The Railroad, Atom Cats and Synths (Fallout 4)
  • Vault 69 Vault Dweller (Fallout 3/Penny Arcade)
  • Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel (Fallout Tactics)
  • Frank Horrigan (Fallout 2)
  • The Chosen One (Fallout 2)
  • The Vault Dweller (Fallout 1)
  • Skynet (Fallout 2)
  • Children of Atom as in Fallout 4 style
  • Elements from the Van Buren Project
  • PnP Mutant and Wasteland Sources

The mod creator posted a map of all the new content added on the official listing page, and there are over 100 additional hotspots. There’s a list of mods on the page that the creator suggests using as well to enhance the mood, including flora overhaul, darker nights, enhanced weather, streetlights, and abbreviated effects.

The ultimate goal is to make Fallout 3 a nexus of sorts for other games, linking them together, and respecting the legacy of the original Interplay releases.

This Mod Has Been In The Works for Years

A Long Time Coming

According to ... on Nexus Mods, the mod began in 2016, and the collaborators have agreed to share their work toward a finalized version. There’s still work to be done on bug fixes, but the bulk is complete, and you can access it now. The mod’s steward also wants to “expand this project with more fun ideas.”

Given how rich the Fallout universe’s lore is at this point, the sky is the limit on that front. The TV show is also adding a lot of its own wrinkles, too, much to the chagrin of some fans. It’ll be interesting to see where Fallout goes from here, and what Fallout 5 will look like. If you’re a Fallout fan, you’ll want to jump in and see some of the references that are part of Fallout Legends.
