Media scholar, Farooq Kperogi, has issued a public apology to former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, following backlash from a Facebook post he made on July 16 regarding the status of her marriage.

Naijaonpoint reports that the controversial post titled “Aisha Buhari, Divorce, and Forgiveness Claim,” Kperogi shared information revealing a strain in the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s marriage.

The allegations sparked reactions online and reportedly caused distress to Mrs. Buhari and those close to her.

Reflecting on the impact of his statement, Kperogi admitted that publishing ... was a grave error in judgment.

He described it as one of the most painful mistakes of his career and acknowledged the emotional toll it has taken on him over the past few days.

He revealed that the information came from a source he trusts deeply, who never intended for it to be made public.

Kperogi accepted full responsibility for publicising the details and admitted that not all credible information should be shared.

Alhaji Sani Zorro, who served as a Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the First Lady, reportedly contacted Kperogi to challenge the accuracy of the claims and reaffirmed that Mrs. Buhari’s marriage was intact before her husband’s death.

In his apology, Kperogi stated that he would not argue with Mrs. Buhari’s account and agreed that she has the right to define the truth about her own marriage.

“I realize it might be impossible for many to believe (except those who truly know me) that I acted without malice, ulterior motives, or external influence. But I sincerely did not intend to harm Mrs. Buhari or execute any personal vendetta.

“To Mrs. Aisha Buhari, I offer my heartfelt and unreserved apology for the needless and deeply regrettable hurt I have caused. I am truly sorry”, he wrote.
