Serie A giants Inter Milan have won the race to sign Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman, beating competition from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to respected transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter have reached a personal agreement with Lookman and are now preparing a €40 million offer to Atalanta to complete the deal.

The 27-year-old Nigerian forward had been linked with several European giants, including Barcelona, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Liverpool, but Inter moved quickest to secure his commitment.

Lookman, who starred for Atalanta with 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances since joining from RB Leipzig in 2022, has long been expected to leave this summer. Atalanta have been open to selling with two years left on his contract.

With Cristian Chivu now at the helm, Inter see Lookman as a key piece in their attacking rebuild. His versatility, pace, and defensive work rate make him a strong fit for the Nerazzurri.

Atletico Madrid reportedly held fresh talks with Atalanta in recent days, while Barcelona had also kept tabs as they weighed up other winger targets, including Marcus Rashford.

Inter’s swift move now puts them in pole position, with official club-to-club talks expected to progress quickly as Atalanta consider the €40 million bid.

Soccernet Verdict: Will Lookman Fit in Well at Inter?

Lookman’s potential move to Inter Milan looks promising on paper. He has the pace, and dribbling skills in the front line that align well with the pressing style of Inter, which is expected to adopt under new coach Cristian Chivu.

With Lautaro Martínez as the central figure in attack, Lookman could slot in comfortably on either wing and provide the much-needed goals from wide areas.

Lookman has already proven himself in Italy with Atalanta, but the demands at Inter come with added pressure. If given time and trust, he can become a key figure in Chivu’s plans.
