Father Of 6, Arrested For Defiling Neighbour’s 2 Children Inside Bush In Igwuruta-Rivers Response Team Vows Prosecution

The Team said the suspect whom have already confessed to committing the crime was arrested with the support of the local vigilante in the area, and handed over to the Police for Prosecution.

Head of Intervention of the Team, Chief Remi Agu, who disclosed this to newsmen during the Teams meeting with the family of the children in Port Harcourt, assured that the suspect will face the full wrath of the law.

‘As a Team, we are committed to curbing the growing menace of sexual and gender based violence in Rivers State, and suspects must be made to face the law to serve as a deterrent to others’.

On her part, Cynthia Okuh, Head of Programs, Women Rights and Counter Trafficking at the Centre for Justice, Empowerment & Development (C4J), urged parents and residents to always keep watch and be close to their children, to guide and protect them from falling prey into the hands of sexual abusers and exploiters.

Cynthia who lamented how she observed blood still flowing from the teenage girls private part when she was first brought by the father to C4J office, commended the bold step of neighbours who blew the whistle when they saw Mr. Sunday Ezekiel defiling the 14 year old at a nearby bush in the community.

She noted that the protection of children from abusers was everybody’s business, and residents must not close their eyes to such evil when they see it happening.

Okuh expressed happiness that despite Mr.Sunday Ezekiel fleeing through bush path for about 5 days after he was caught in the act by community members, he will now be facing the law for the crime he has committed against the children and the State.

The suspect who said he was deceived by the devil into committing the immoral act on several occasions against the children of ages 8 and 14, have had his family members threatening to deal with the children’s father should he not withdraw the case. An act the Response Team frowns at.
