The Punisher skull is at the center of renewed controversy after the leak of a new challenge coin issued by FBI Director Kash Patel that evokes the infamous skull logo. The skull’s increasing appropriation by law enforcement over the years has caused it to become a source of major cultural contention, which this coin’s design reignites.

Ken Dilanian, who covers the U.S. intelligence community for MSNBC, shared the challenge coin on X.

“Seems someone put a lot of thought into this,” Dilanian noted, indicating the design’s elaborations on the traditional Punisher logo, such as pistols for teeth, and a decal of an old-school Thompson gun on the back, along with Kash Patel’s signature.
