The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has pledged his support for Moses Paul, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Obi made this known on Wednesday at Merit House in Abuja during an independence programme organised by Paul, popularly known as Dr MO, and his councilor candidates.
The former governor of Anambra said Paul’s character and consistency give him confidence that he will not betray the trust of the people.
“Dr MO will not change, but because human beings can change, I will be shocked if he changes,” Obi said.
The AMAC election is scheduled for February 2026.
Paul, who is the national secretary of the Obidient Movement of Nigeria, also received endorsement from the movement during the event.
Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, announced the endorsement at the programme themed “We Don Tire”.
Addressing supporters, Paul declared that governance in AMAC had failed the people, citing collapsed waste management, abandoned schools, insecurity, and multiple taxation stifling businesses.
His words: “The bitter truth must be told: AMAC has failed. Our markets are trapped in endless litigations, waste management has collapsed, schools were abandoned for months, our health centres are dead, insecurity is everywhere, businesses are strangled by multiple taxation, and infrastructure is practically non-existent. This is not governance. This is abandonment.”
He, however, stressed that his campaign was about rebuilding, not lamentation.
Paul promised to restore dignity, prosperity, and service to governance, adding that he would modernise AMAC markets into centres of prosperity if elected chairman.
