WATCH THE VIDEO HERE SOME retired members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, under the Coalition of Military Pensioners, protested at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja on this morning over the non-payment of a 20% to 28% salary increment owed to them from January to November 2024. The retirees, drawn from various chapters, expressed frustration with the Federal Government’s failure to meet their entitlements. Their demands include payment of palliatives for the period from October 2023 to November 2024, the addition of N32,000 to their pensions, bulk payment of the Security Debarment Allowance (SDA), and refunds for deductions made from the pensions of medically boarded soldiers, among others. In December 2023, the Senate announced plans to launch a full investigation into the Military Pensions Board after its recess. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Olamilekan Adeola, made this known during the budget report defence by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service. During the session, an additional N20 billion was requested for the construction of a new office building for the Military Pensions Board and renovations to phases 1 to 4 of the Federal Secretariat. The Chairman also questioned the board’s operations, budget allocation, and the number of retirees reportedly receiving payments.
