The incident, which occurred yesterday, caused panic among residents of the capital. In a statement released hours later, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, explained that the accident was caused by a trailer that lost control and crashed into a stationary vehicle caught in traffic. “The impact ignited a massive fire, engulfing 14 vehicles. Chaos ensued as bystanders and motorists scrambled for safety. Emergency responders arrived swiftly, battling heavy smoke and intense flames to rescue those trapped,” the statement read. “Six victims were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital, but sadly, medical personnel confirmed them dead. Their remains have been deposited at the Karu General Hospital Morgue.” She added that with the swift intervention of the police, fire service, and other security agencies, the blaze was contained, and normal traffic flow was restored. “The FCT Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the victims’ families and assures the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences,” Adeh stated.
