THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved a final 14-day grace period for property owners in Abuja who violated land use regulations to pay a ₦5 million conversion fee.
This was revealed in a statement issued yesterday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. The new grace period, which begins tomorrow, November 11, 2025, applies to property owners in Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse districts.
According to Olayinka, the decision follows the expiration of an earlier 30-day deadline for affected allottees and title holders to regularize their property usage. He warned that failure to comply within the 14-day window would lead to enforcement actions by the FCT Administration.
The statement explained that the extension reflects the minister’s intention to encourage voluntary compliance before implementing stricter measures. It noted that earlier public notices had been issued in September 2025 regarding the reviewed land use and conversion policies across several parts of the capital city.
The affected streets include Gana Street and Usuma Street in Maitama, Yakubu Gowon Crescent in Asokoro, Aminu Kano and Adetokunbo Ademola Crescents in Wuse II, as well as Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, and Onitsha Street in Garki II. Others are Ogbomosho Street, Lafia Close, Yola Street, Abriba Close, Danbatta Street, Ringim Close, and Ilorin Street in Garki I.
Recall that in September, the FCT Administration fined several property owners for converting residential properties into commercial spaces without official approval. Wike had emphasized that the administration would not tolerate unauthorized land use and warned defaulters to comply before the final deadline expires.
