WATCH THE VIDEO HERE THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the demolition of houses obstructing an ongoing road construction project in Gishiri, Katampe, Abuja. Wike, who personally supervised the demolition, expressed frustration, stating that residents had been given ample time to vacate the area. “We gave you time,” he told the community chief. Despite prior warnings, some residents attempted to block the demolition but were dispersed with tear gas by security operatives. Addressing journalists, Wike explained that compensation had been offered, but many rejected it, leaving the government no choice but to proceed. The minister emphasized that a three-month grace period had been provided for evacuation. He reiterated that the project, handled by contractor CGC, must be completed by May 2025, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s second-year anniversary in office. “I have visited this site multiple times and engaged with community leaders. This project is for public benefit, and no government will allow individuals to obstruct progress,” Wike stated. He further criticized the community chiefs for failing to take advantage of the given timeline and reiterated that the FCT Administration had offered compensation and resettlement plans. The Gishiri road project, launched in October 2024, is a key infrastructure initiative expected to enhance connectivity in the capital.
