R. Kelly will remain behind bars and serve out the remainder of his sentence after a federal appeals court upheld his sex trafficking and racketeering conviction.

The judge claims there is more than enough evidence to justify Kelly’s lengthy sentence.

Kelly was indicted on the following charges:

  • one count of conspiracy to receive child pornography,
  • two counts of receiving child pornography,
  • four counts of producing child pornography,
  • five counts of enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity
  • one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice.

He was sentenced in Chicago to 20 years in prison in February 2023 on charges of child pornography and enticement of minors for sex and just months later, he was convicted to 30 years in prison for racketeering and sex trafficking charges based out of New York.

“R. Kelly used his fame, fortune and enablers to prey on the young, the vulnerable and the voiceless for his own sexual gratification, while many turned a blind eye,” stated U.S. Attorney Breon Peace.

“Through his actions, Kelly exhibited a callous disregard for the devastation his crimes had on his victims and has shown no remorse for his conduct. With today’s sentence he has finally and appropriately been held accountable for his decades of abuse, exploitation and degradation of teenagers and other vulnerable young people. We hope that today’s sentence brings some measure of comfort and closure to the victims, including those who bravely testified at trial, and serves as long-overdue recognition that their voices deserve to be heard and their lives matter.”

Despite the laundry list of evidence against him, including testimony from several of his victims, Kelly denies the allegations against him.
