Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, has declared that the legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is the only African artist greater than him.
The self-acclaimed African Giant made the bold statement during a recent livestream chat with popular Australian streamer Playboymax on Friday, where he discussed his musical influences and legacy.
“He [Fela Kuti] is the king. He is the only one [African artist] who is greater than me. He is the only one.” Burna Boy said.
Burna Boy, whose global hits such as Last Last and City Boys have cemented his status as one of Africa’s biggest exports, has often credited Fela for inspiring his artistic direction and activism through music.
His remark has since sparked debates among fans across social media, with many weighing in on whether his claim reflects confidence, truth, or sheer audacity.
