Renowned Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Femi Otedola has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to his mentor and role model, Sir Gilbert Chagoury, as he marks his 80th birthday.
In a tribute shared on Wednesday, Otedola lauded Chagoury’s visionary contributions to Nigeria’s development, describing his life as “proof that vision, discipline, and an unwavering belief in Nigeria can truly shape history.”
Otedola highlighted Chagoury’s role in transforming the Nigerian landscape through projects such as Banana Island, which redefined urban development, and Eko Atlantic, which he described as “the 9th wonder of the modern world.” He noted that Eko Atlantic not only represents impressive infrastructure but also embodies foresight in protecting Victoria Island and Ikoyi from the Atlantic Ocean.
“Without your vision, there would be no Banana Island, a bold idea that redefined what urban development could look like in Nigeria,” Otedola said. “And without the courage and persistence behind Eko Atlantic, much of Victoria Island and Ikoyi might today be at the mercy of the Atlantic Ocean.”
Otedola also praised Chagoury’s enduring passion for Nigeria, describing it as “rare, genuine, and deeply inspiring.” He added that even after decades of achievement, Chagoury’s commitment to the country has “never wavered,” calling it his greatest legacy.
As Chagoury celebrates eight decades of life, Otedola wished him continued health, strength, and fulfilment, while acknowledging the lasting impact of his contributions to modern Nigeria.
“Happy birthday, sir. The story of modern Nigeria is richer because you chose to believe, build, and stay committed,” Otedola said.
