THE Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its condolences to the Government and people of South Korea following the tragic crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216, which claimed the lives of approximately 179 passengers.

In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Federal Government expressed sympathy for the grieving families and pledged solidarity with South Korea during this difficult time.

The crash occurred yesterday, December 29, 2024, when the Boeing 737-800, returning from Bangkok, Thailand, skidded off the runway while attempting to land at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea.

The collision against a wall caused a fiery explosion, leaving only two survivors among the 181 passengers and crew on board.

Describing the incident as a profound tragedy, the Nigerian Government reaffirmed its support for South Korea.

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria extends its heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Korea over the unfortunate crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216 on December 29, 2024.

“The Federal Government sympathises with the South Korean Government and the families of the victims of this devastating accident,” the statement said.
