FG Declares Wednesday Public Holiday for Independence Anniversary

Wednesday, October 1, 2025, has been declared as a public holiday by the federal government to commemorate the 65th Independence anniversary of Nigeria.

This information was disclosed by the Minister ​of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed on Monday by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Mrs Magdalene Ajani.

The Minister congratulated all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, on this historic occasion, urging citizens to continue to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the nation since independence in 1960.

While wishing Nigerians a happy and memorable 2025 Independence Day celebration, Mr Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the country will continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development.

He charged Nigerians to further keep faith in the federal government, assuring them of national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.
