The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Government of Egypt have committed to collaborate and address the issues of food insecurity.

Naijaonpoint reports that this was the highlight of a meeting between Nigeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture on Saturday, at the Egypt-Nigeria Business Forum.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari said the meeting between the two ministries centred on forging stronger agricultural ties to address shared challenges, including rapid population growth, food security, and climate change.

He stated that the collaboration aligned with Nigeria’s policy, which prioritized sustainable development, economic transformation, and innovation.

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy, supporting over 42 million farming households,” he stated.

At the meeting, the two ministries emphasized the need to improve yields, mechanization, and innovative practices to boost productivity and food security.

Our discussions reaffirmed the importance of technical collaboration and knowledge exchange between Nigeria and Egypt. Egypt’s experience in crop and livestock production, food technology, and water resource management presents valuable opportunities for Nigeria to replicate and adapt,” he stated.

The Minister of Agriculture disclosed that both nations agreed to drive investment in the agricultural sector of both nations.

We have agreed to convene technical teams from both nations to initiate joint projects supported by our governments and private sectors. This partnership is a testament to our shared vision for agricultural innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development.

“I am confident that this collaboration will contribute significantly to realizing Nigeria’s vision of a prosperous, food-secure nation, while strengthening Africa’s resilience to global challenges,” Kyari added.
