He pointed out that instead of tackling the escalating insecurity, the government is more concerned with arresting protesters.

In a statement posted on his X page yesterday Abubakar denounced the terrorist attack in Yobe State on Sunday that resulted in multiple deaths.

He wrote, “Despite the tragic bloodshed in Yobe, where numerous lives were lost, and the widespread destruction in villages across Katsina, Sokoto, and other towns in the North-West and North-Central regions, the government remains detached, absorbed in trivial matters.

“The unrest extends to the South as well, where the turmoil caused by Boko Haram and political instability threatens the peace of the nation. Amid these serious challenges, the Federal Government is busy suppressing dissent, resorting to extreme measures like imposing death sentences on protesters.

“The Yobe atrocity is a clear indication of the failure of the current security system, calling for immediate and thorough reform. My thoughts are with the victims of these heinous attacks, and I strongly urge the Tinubu administration to show greater dedication to protecting lives and property across the country.”

Insurgents attacked Mafa Village, near Shekau, the hometown of the late Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, on Sunday.

The attackers stormed the village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, killing many and burning down several homes.

Police spokesman Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the attack, stating that it was reported by a local resident, Adamu Hassan.

“The terrorists killed many people, but the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed,” Abdulkarim said.

On Tuesday, the Kaduna State government held funeral prayers for 34 victims of the attack.

Deputy Governor Idi Barde-Gubana, who expressed sympathy for the victims, said the state government would work with the Federal Government to establish military presence in the area to prevent future attacks.

He also instructed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure that the displaced and injured receive adequate care in camps and hospitals.
