THE Federal Government has delivered on its pledge to allocate houses and pieces of land to members of the Super Eagles squad following their runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
The promise was made to the squad by President Bola Tinubu after the Super Eagles reached the AFCON final in Cote d’Ivoire in early 2024.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed last night that players have received certificates for the plots of land and housing units promised by Tinubu.
The NFF shared videos and images of the players being presented with the documents last night in Fez, Morocco, where the Super Eagles are playing their group matches at the 2025 AFCON.
The Super Eagles were beaten 2-1 by hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the 2023 AFCON final, and were hosted by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja upon their return home.
The players and officials were conferred with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and allocated a plot of land and an apartment each in the Federal Capital Territory in recognition of their performance at the tournament.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko as well as other government officials were in Fez to present the property documents to the players.
“Mr President promised us land in Abuja and Lagos after the last AFCON, and he felt there’s no reason we should start another campaign without those promises being fulfilled,” Gusau told the Super Eagles squad during the presentation.
Shehu added: “It’s is the decision of this federal government that whatever has been promised must be delivered before you start the first match of this AFCON.”
The Super Eagles open their Morocco 2025 AFCON campaign against Tanzania this evening in Fez.
