Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, says the federal government has released withheld local government allocations, assuring that steps will be taken to ensure the prompt payment of workers’ salaries.

Ibas made the disclosure during a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators in Port Harcourt on Friday.

He described the gathering as a crucial step in the state’s effort to restore stability and progress.

The state sole administrator expressed concern over the ongoing economic hardship in the Niger Delta, stressing that despite the region’s wealth of natural resources, its people continue to face severe challenges.

“This is unacceptable,” Ibas stated, calling for greater transformation and accountability.

He acknowledged the delays in salary payments to local government workers and expressed empathy for their struggles.

He assured that the withheld allocations had been released and his administration would work to ensure timely salary payments moving forward.

Clifford Paul, President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Administrator of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, responded by acknowledging the development strides made in the state despite political conflicts.

He commended the Federal Government for appointing Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator, citing his competence and leadership ability.

Paul also pledged support for peace and stability in the state, while urging Ibas to prioritize workers’ welfare.

He noted that local government workers were currently owed two months’ salaries, but with the release of the withheld allocations, there is renewed hope that the issue will be addressed promptly. He called on all stakeholders to work together to rebuild trust and foster unity in Rivers State.
