The Nigerian government on Tuesday moved Nnamdi Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, to the Kuje Magistrate Court following their arrest during Monday’s protest in Abuja.

Naijaonpoint reports that the protest, convened by activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, was staged to demand the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Kanu’s younger brother, Kanunta, disclosed the development in a post on 𝕏, accusing the government of targeting Kanu’s legal team and family.

He wrote, “Nigeria’s government is now taking Barr. Aloy Ejimakor and Prince Emmanuel Kanu to Kuje Magistrate Court after their unlawful arrest. This is a clear intimidation of Kanu, his family, and legal team ahead of Thursday’s trial. #JusticeForKanu #RuleOfLawUnderAttack.”

Naijaonpoint had earlier reported that the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that Ejimakor and Emmanuel were among those arrested on Monday after protesters attempted to access restricted areas in Abuja, despite a Federal High Court order banning demonstrations within and around Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

Force spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, explained earlier that those arrested were taken to the Force CID before being transferred.

Kanu, who was re-arrested and extradited to Nigeria in June 2021, has remained in detention despite multiple court orders granting him bail.
