The Federal Government has said it is closely monitoring developments following reports that a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft was forced to land in Burkina Faso over an alleged airspace violation.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said officials were still verifying the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We are monitoring the situation and will issue a statement when we receive adequate information,” Ebienfa said.
Naijaonpoint had earlier reported that the Government of Burkina Faso, through the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), claimed on Monday that a Nigerian military aircraft had entered its airspace without authorisation, prompting emergency measures.
According to a statement published by the Agence d’Information du Burkina, the aircraft, which carried two crew members and nine soldiers, reportedly made an emergency landing in Bobo Dioulasso.
“The Confederation of Sahel States informs the public that a C-130 aircraft belonging to the Air Force of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was forced to land today, December 8, 2025, in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, following an in-flight emergency while operating in Burkinabe airspace,” the AES said.
The Burkinabe authorities further stated that the aircraft lacked authorisation to fly over Burkina Faso’s territory.
The regional body condemned the incident, stating, “The Confederation condemns with the utmost firmness this violation of its airspace and the sovereignty of its member States.”
The AES warned that air and anti-aircraft units had been placed on high alert and authorised “to neutralise any aircraft that would violate the Confederate space.”
