President Tinubu to Launch Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme for Nigerians Nationwide

In a bold move to address Nigeria’s housing challenges, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has announced the upcoming launch of the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme. The initiative, under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to make affordable housing a reality for all Nigerians—regardless of income level or social class.

Speaking on Wednesday, April 8, 2025, during a courtesy visit by Creative Sphere Limited to the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, the Minister disclosed that the President will officially launch the programme soon.

The ambitious plan includes the construction of 100 housing units in each of the 774 local government areas, totaling 77,400 homes across the country. The goal is to complete the entire project within 12 months of launch, providing much-needed shelter to Nigerians in both urban and rural areas.

“This is a revolutionary initiative aimed at delivering dignity through housing. It shows President Tinubu’s deep commitment to a Nigeria where every citizen, no matter how vulnerable, can own a decent home,” Arc. Dangiwa stated.

Who Will Benefit?

The programme is designed to serve:

A key feature of the programme is its affordability model. 80% of the homes will be sold at highly subsidized rates to individuals living in the host local governments. Buyers will only need to contribute one-third of their monthly income. For instance:

  • A person earning ₦30,000/month will pay ₦10,000/month

  • A person earning ₦90,000/month will pay ₦30,000/month

The remaining 20% of the units will be given free of charge to the poorest of the poor, including widows, orphans, and others identified as vulnerable.

Funding and Facilities

The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme will be financed through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF).

Each estate will include:

  • Recreational areas

  • A clinic

  • A police outpost

  • A primary school

  • A shopping mall

This holistic approach ensures not just housing, but livable and secure communities.

A Three-Tiered Housing Strategy

The social housing programme forms part of a larger national housing agenda that includes:

  1. Renewed Hope Housing Estates – 250 units each in 30 state capitals, funded through the federal budget

  2. Renewed Hope Cities – Large-scale developments in:

    • FCT (Abuja)

    • Lagos (SW)

    • Rivers (SS)

    • Enugu (SE)

    • Nasarawa (NC)

    • Kano (NW)

    • Maiduguri (NE)

These city projects are being executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to drive sustainability and private sector engagement.

Real Estate Carnival Partnership

During the same meeting, the ministry received a proposal for partnership in the upcoming Real Estate Innovation and Investment Carnival organized by Creative Sphere Limited.

Chairman Mr. Monday Ogedengbe said the event is aimed at showcasing the economic potential of Nigeria’s real estate sector through a carnival-style awareness campaign, both locally and globally. The initiatives proposed include:

Also in attendance was Queen Fatima Abubakar Zara, crowned Queen of Real Estate on February 14, 2025, who also pledged her support to promote housing development nationwide.

Arc. Dangiwa lauded the innovation, stating the Ministry is open to collaborations that promote visibility and growth in the real estate sector.

Final Note

The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme represents one of Nigeria’s most ambitious housing plans in decades. With a strong focus on affordability, accessibility, and sustainability, it has the potential to transform lives, communities, and the economy.
