The federal government has affirmed that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) remains the statutory body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
This assertion was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa.
The statement clarified that there is no truth in certain reports suggesting that JAMB is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Minister noted that the publications with such claims are peddling false and misleading information, stressing that the Ministry never issued or authorized any such announcement.
“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
“The established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any contrary information should be disregarded in its entirety,” Alausa said.
The Minister emphasized that JAMB continues to play its statutory and legal role and urged students, parents, and tertiary institutions to rely solely on official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB for accurate information regarding admission policies and education-related matters.
The statement affirmed the commitment of the government to upholding transparency, fairness, and merit in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission system and the overall education sector.
“The Federal Ministry of Education reiterates that there has been no change in the existing role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework,” the statement added.
