THE Federal Government has suspended several senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) due to bribery allegations involving the controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
A blogger, Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, accused some Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers of accepting N15 million from Bobrisky in exchange for dropping money laundering charges related to his naira-spraying incident in April, which led to a six-month prison sentence.
The blogger also claimed that Bobrisky paid millions of naira to secure preferential treatment in prison. Bobrisky has denied these accusations, while both the EFCC and NCoS have launched investigations.
In a statement yesterday, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board announced that the officers were suspended following a viral video alleging misconduct.
The statement, signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, revealed that the suspensions would allow for further investigation, with the findings to be made public.
The suspended officers include Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both Deputy Controllers of Corrections in charge of the Medium and Maximum Security Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State.
Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, stationed at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate out of the facility.
In a separate incident, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, another Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja, was also suspended for allegedly accepting bribes on behalf of an inmate.
