THE Federal Government will today arraign five men accused of orchestrating the June 5, 2022, bombing of Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which left more than 40 worshippers dead and many others injured.

The defendants — Idris Omeiza, Al-Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Abubakar — will appear before Justice Obiorah Egwatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja to face nine terrorism-related charges filed against them.

Their arraignment comes three years after then Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, announced their arrest.

At the time, the National Security Council linked the deadly attack to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Recall that armed assailants stormed the church during Sunday mass, opening fire on the congregation before setting off explosives, in one of the deadliest attacks in Ondo State’s history.
