During a one-day stakeholders’ meeting focused on the challenges facing technical colleges, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman expressed dissatisfaction with the merging of technical colleges and colleges of science, stating that it has undermined the benefits of establishing technical colleges nationwide. Mamman clarified that technical colleges should cater specifically to students interested in technical education. He stressed that those wishing to pursue science programs should attend regular colleges, emphasizing that merging the two types of schools was a significant mistake. Additionally, Mamman lamented the low enrollment rates in technical colleges, pointing out that these institutions play a vital role in teaching skills necessary for the country’s transformation.
