NATIONAL Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko has announced that the Super Falcons and D’Tigress’ rewards for winning African titles this year are now available for collection.
The Super Falcons won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for a record-extending 10th time in July, while D’Tigress secured a fifth straight Women’s AfroBasket triumph weeks later.
Players and officials of both teams were promised houses, national honours and cash awards of the naira equivalent of $100,000 each by President Bola Tinubu when he hosted them in Abuja.
Dikko confirmed that the rewards to the Super Falcons and the D’Tigress
had been processed, while he was in Fez, Morocco presenting the title documents for the housing allocations promised to the Super Eagles for finishing as runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2024.
“The NSC chairman confirmed that the rewards of houses, national honours and cash awards of naira equivalent of of $100,000, awarded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to the Super Falcons and the D’Tigers have been processed with the title documents to the houses and national honours certificates available for collection while the office of the Minister of Finance and Accountant General of the Federation are concluding the cash payments directly to the players accounts,” the NSC said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Super Falcons players and officials were rewarded with houses and $100,000 each for winning a 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.
Also, the D’Tigress and their backroom staff were rewarded for becoming the first team in history to win five consecutive Women’s AfroBasket titles in August.
Weeks after President Tinubu’s pledge, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade had revealed in an interview that the players had not received the money promised to them.
