The Federal Ministry of Finance has confirmed the disbursement of N152 billion to contractors for verified contracts, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to accountability, due process and the protection of taxpayers’ funds.
The Minister of State for Finance, Mrs Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this in a statement shared on her official X handle, amid concerns by contractors over delayed payments and mounting financial pressures.
“I wish to confirm that the Federal Ministry of Finance has disbursed a total of N152 billion to contractors for verified contracts,” Mrs Uzoka-Anite said.
“Every payment undergoes rigorous verification in accordance with extant laws and regulations, ensuring the protection of taxpayers’ funds and upholding accountability and transparency,” she added.
The Minister acknowledged the strain payment delays may have placed on contractors, assuring that the Ministry remains open to engagement and dialogue to resolve outstanding issues.
“The Ministry acknowledges the financial pressures that delays in payment may have placed on contractors. We remain committed to continuous dialogue and engagement, seeking effective resolutions to all conflicts,” she stated.
Mrs Uzoka-Anite also appealed to contractors to respect institutional processes and public officers involved in payment verification, noting that officials have continued to carry out their duties despite challenges.
“We call on all contractors to respect the processes and personnel of the Ministry, who have shown unwavering dedication despite facing varying degrees of intimidation and harassment,” she said.
Reiterating government’s position, the Minister assured that all legitimate claims will be treated fairly and in line with established procedures.
“The Ministry assures all contractors of our ongoing support and reiterates that all payment requests will continue to be processed in line with due process, timely, and consistently,” Mrs Uzoka-Anite added.
The disclosure comes as contractors across key infrastructure and development sectors continue to press for improved payment timelines, with the Finance Ministry insisting that verification remains critical to fiscal discipline and sustainable public finance management.
