The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially changed its name to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and unveiled a new corporate logo as part of the country’s transition to a revamped tax framework set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
The unveiling took place on Wednesday in Abuja, led by NRS Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, following the enactment of the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act, 2025, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in June.
The new law formally replaces FIRS with NRS as Nigeria’s central revenue authority, expanding its role under the nation’s comprehensive tax reform programme.
Adedeji described the rebranding as a key milestone in modernising Nigeria’s revenue administration. According to a statement from his Special Adviser, Dare Adekanmbi, the new identity “reflects a renewed commitment to a more unified, efficient, and service-oriented revenue system aligned with Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda and global best practices.”
The NRS logo and brand elements are intended to signal continuity, strengthened institutional capacity, and a forward-looking approach to supporting taxpayers and national development. Adedeji further assured the public that the service will prioritise transparency, collaboration, and service excellence.
The rebranding coincides with the implementation of new tax laws, which have generated public debate. President Tinubu has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the reforms, emphasising that they are designed to enhance fairness, competitiveness, and economic sustainability, rather than impose additional burdens on Nigerians.
Under the new system, the National Identification Number (NIN) issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will serve as the Tax Identification Number (TIN) for individuals.
The FIRS also disclosed that registered businesses will use their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration numbers as tax IDs.
