Dele-Bashiru’s future was in doubt coming into this summer due to his lack of game time at Lazio last season

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru might play an important role for the Biancocelesti next season, as coach Maurizio Sarri has expressed his confidence in the Super Eagles midfielder, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio from Turkish Super Lig club Hatayspor last year after an impressive two-year stint.

However, the Super Eagles midfielder did not see much game time last season under the tutelage of former coach Marco Baroni. Dele-Bashiru featured in 29 games, with five goals and three assists to his name.

Due to his lack of game time, there were talks that Dele-Bashiru might leave the Biancocelesti this summer. It was exacerbated by the appointment of Sarri as coach, as his arrival would mean that some players could leave due to the change in philosophy.

However, it is unlikely that Dele-Bashiru will leave Lazio this summer. This is as Sarri has openly endorsed the Super Eagles star.

“Dele-Bashiru is a very strong guy who, if he manages to learn a few moves, can give us a big hand,” Sarri said per Pazzidifanta.

Dele-Bashiru has been training with the rest of the Lazio squad in Italy as they look to get back into shape and understand Sarri’s philosophy.

They have games lined up against Avellino, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Burnley, and Atromitos in the coming weeks.

When will Dele-Bashiru begin the Serie A campaign with Lazio?

The 2025/26 Serie A season will kick off on August 23rd with Champions Napoli locking horns with returnees Sassuolo.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and his Lazio side will begin their campaign just a day later with a tough game against Como at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

They will hope to begin their Serie A campaign on a high with a Como win.
