Five persons have sustained injuries following the explosion of an improvised explosive device along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima road in Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analysis platform, the incident happened on Thursday.
The report said a motorcycle conveying five passengers triggered the explosive device while travelling along the route.
The publication said that the IED was believed to have been planted by suspected bandits targeting security patrols in the area.
It added that he explosion destroyed the motorcycle and left all five occupants seriously injured.
“Security operatives immediately cordoned off the road and restricted vehicular movement in the area,” Makama said.
“Residents were advised to stay away from the location while security agencies carried out checks for additional threats.
“The injured victims were later taken to the General Hospital in Gummi for medical treatment.
“Movement along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima corridor remains limited as security agencies continue surveillance operations.”
In December 2025, travellers along the Gurusu–Gwashi road in the same local government area were injured in a similar IED explosion.
Days later, at least nine persons were reportedly killed after two suspected IEDs detonated along the Magami–Dansadau road in Maru LGA of Zamfara.
The explosives were reportedly planted along the road linking the Maikogo and Mai’ayaya communities.
