Five new popular games for 2024 in the Google Play store

Mobile games have come a long way since the early days of smartphones and that’s a good thing for those who love to play games on the go. While it’s nice to sit in front of a TV or monitor and play games on a PC or a console, sometimes you want that gaming fix while you’re not at home and the only device you have on you is the phone in your pocket.

If you’re ever in that situation these days, there is no shortage of options for what to play. And no matter what kind of genre of games you’re into, there’s something for you. If you enjoy mobile games and are always seeking something new to play, we’ve rounded up options for some of the top games available on the Play Store this year.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile

There’s no disputing that Call of Duty is the king of first-person shooter games and that continues to be true with the emergence of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile that launched Android and iOS earlier this year.

While Call of Duty: Mobile has been available for a few years now, Warzone Mobile is a different game entirely, and in many ways, it’s a better game. Although they are both great. What’s awesome about Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is that it’s linked with the PC and console versions of the current Call of Duty. Which at the moment is Black Ops 6.

Warzone Mobile will always have its own mobile-specific features and such, but it was designed primarily to not only bring the proper Warzone experience to mobile but to give PC and console Call of Duty players a way to level up and earn in-game stuff while on the go. That’s one of the main reasons this game is so good. Say you’re playing Black Ops 6 at home on your PS5 and then you have to head out for a few hours. Maybe you don’t want to quit playing though.

The good news is you can play this game and still level up your character and your weapons. Because XP gains are shared between both the mobile game and the PC/console versions. This also means you can work your way through the current battle pass. In the case of Black Ops 6, the battle pass arrives with season 1, which is due to begin on November 14.

Now there are certainly differences. For instance, if you purchase CoD points on Warzone Mobile, you cannot transfer those to the PC or console version of Call of Duty. However, anything you buy with those CoD points is usable on the PC and console versions of the game thanks to cross-progression. The only caveat is that the blueprints, operator skins, or bundles that you buy will need to be labeled so that they work for both Warzone Mobile and the main Call of Duty game.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile was designed with touch controls in mind as the main form of input, but it fully supports controllers. A lot of them too. And, to top it off the controller support is actually really good and the controls feel nice and perform well.

Best of all, this version of Call of Duty is free. If you love Call of Duty and haven’t given Warzone Mobile a try yet, I highly recommend it.

Dune: Imperium Digital

If you love strategy games then you absolutely need to check out the Dune: Imperium Digital release. The very first time I ever played this game was in its tabletop board game form, and I was hooked. So hooked that when I found out it was available on Android, I bought the game that night after I got home. This is probably one of the most fun times I’ve had playing a strategy game on mobile. The best part about it is that the game is easy to learn how to play.

Now this is technically a strategy game but it’s also a deck-building game that mixes in worker placement. The main goal is to be the first person to reach 10 victory points by or prior to the last round, or simply have the most by the time all rounds are over. Another main component of this game is building up your deck. Each card has a certain thing you’ll be able to do and will allow you to go to certain spaces on the board. This is the worker placement.

You will have up to three agents you can place down on various spots. Each spot has certain rewards and costs that could ultimately lead you to victory. You will use the cards from your deck (a hand of five each round) to place those workers on the desired spot. To acquire new cards, though you will need to have what’s called “persuasion”, which some of the cards in your deck will have. As you earn more cards, you can end up with more persuasion at the end of each round when you have a chance to buy whatever cards are up.

You’ll need to think about your choices carefully too. Each other player can block off certain spaces. You also have a variety of options for characters, and each character, known as a leader in this game, will have their own unique abilities that can be played. This is hands down a must-have game if you love the Dune franchise and you enjoy deck-building games. Plus, you can play solo or with friends. This is a paid game at $10.99 for the base game, and then there’s an expansion for an additional $9.99 that adds more game elements and leader options. It’s entirely worth the money though.

Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero is the newest game from the HoYoverse team behind Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. It’s an RPG with action combat like Genshin, but it also gives off some definite Persona franchise vibes because of it’s more modern city setting. If you’ve ever played any of the Persona games where you’re running around sectioned-off portions of Japanese cities, that’s partially what the gameplay is like here.

Instead of being open-world, you will have sections of each location where you can run around and explore a little bit. These won’t be massive areas but they won’t be tiny either. This helps to give the game a sense of scale but without being too large for some players. As with the other HoYoverse games Zenless Zone Zero features anime graphics that are highly stylized. Combat and all other visuals are very flashy with pretty effects. So if you like this kind of art style in your games, you’ll love Zenless Zone Zero.

This is also a free-to-play gacha game in the sense that there are tons of different characters you can collect and use for your party. Don’t let that turn you away, though. It’s easy enough to collect new characters without having to spend real money if you play enough.

As for the game setting, you inhabit a near-future city designed after places like Tokyo or Hong Kong. The world has been invaded by mysterious creatures called “Hollows” (not exactly the kind you might know from Bleach), and you’ll be part of a team that’s fighting them back to save humanity.

Warcraft Rumble

Warcraft Rumble is a pretty awesome mobile game if you like games similar to Clash Royale. What makes this even better than Clash Royale is that it’s set in the Warcraft universe. So you have tons of WoW-inspired elements like familiar dungeons and raids you can go through as levels. For the WoW fan, this is a perfect complimentary game when you need a break from WoW but still want to play something.

As a strategy RTS that plays like a hero collector, you’ll travel across Azeroth by going through each level. Each level has unique bosses and enemies from World of Warcraft, and you’ll need to win by destroying the enemy boss or main enemy. Towers set at key places around each map can provide a bolstered defense or attack, but you’ll also need to watch your own tower. So the goal is to set up your team of miniatures (based on WoW characters) at crucial points to both attack and defend as needed.

All characters can be leveled up and whatever miniatures you pick will be led by a special powerful character who acts as the leader. These will be characters like Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall, and other key characters.  There are both PvE and PvP gameplay modes as well. And you can even create and join guilds, which provides you with various benefits. So you’ll want to join a guild as soon as you unlock that ability.
