A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Enugu State, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia has officially resigned his membership from the ruling party.
The prominent politician submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday to the chairman of his local ward, Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu, in the Awgu Local Government Area.
In the strongly-worded document, Ogbonnia made several scathing allegations against the administration of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the current government has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
The letter was also forwarded to the national leadership of the party, including the National Chairman and Secretary, accompanied by his APC membership card.
Ogbonnia explained that his exit follows deep reflection and broad consultations with political associates and family members.
He noted that as a founding member of the party, he initially held high hopes for national development, but current realities have made his continued stay “untenable and unbearable.”
The former aspirant detailed his grievances in the letter, stating:
“Specifically, the leadership of the party under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has failed to address critical issues like insecurity, poverty, and unemployment, which directly impacts the future of our people and the teeming youths.”
He further criticized the party for a “lack of internal party democracy,” citing issues such as the imposition of leaders, nepotism, and the marginalization of loyal members. He accused the APC of aggressively pursuing a “one-party state” by using unfair tactics to suppress the opposition.
Ogbonnia also raised concerns regarding national security and foreign relations. He alleged that the President’s leadership style has left Nigeria vulnerable, stating:
“Foreign military intervention: Tinubu’s inhumane leadership where he had remained nonchalant to severe security challenges ravaging the country has compromised national sovereignty and made Nigeria vulnerable to neocolonial foreign military interventions.”
Directly addressing the 2027 general elections, Ogbonnia described the rumored second-term bid of the President as a “gross insult” to the country.
“Endorsement of a failed president for a second term: The plot to re-nominate Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2027 polls is a gross insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians. This is a president who has not only failed in most critical areas of national development, but he is also irredeemable.”
He concluded by thanking the party for the opportunity to have run for the presidency during the 2019 cycle but maintained that the APC no longer serves the best interests of Nigeria.
