Former B2K member J Boog is trending for all the wrong reasons after his wife, Shelbie Houston (@iamshelbiehouston), went viral for making disparaging and stereotypical remarks about Black women.
The backlash has been swift and intense, especially because the couple has recently been going viral on TikTok and other platforms for what many viewers believed was a celebration of Black love. Ironically, much of that praise came from Black women themselves.
What She Allegedly Said
In a video that is now circulating widely across social media, Shelbie reportedly went on a lengthy rant in which she stated that she “does not like Black girls.” During the same clip, she allegedly made multiple stereotypical and offensive comments about Black women that many viewers described as disturbing and unnecessary.
Shelbie has previously suggested that she does not identify as Black, despite appearing to be racially mixed. That clarification, however, did little to calm the outrage.
Why the Backlash Is So Strong
What fueled the reaction even more was the timing.
Just days earlier, Shelbie and J Boog were being praised online, with commenters applauding their relationship and uplifting them as a positive representation of Black love. Many Black women flooded the comments with support, only to feel blindsided once the video resurfaced.
For many, the situation felt like betrayal.
One viral comment summed up the mood:
“Black women were hyping you up, defending you, and supporting you, just for you to turn around and say you don’t like us?”
Across TikTok, X, and Instagram, users are calling out what they see as internalized anti-Blackness and colorism, while others are questioning how J Boog feels about the comments, especially given his own identity and fanbase.
Some fans are now urging J Boog to publicly address the situation, while others say silence would be just as telling.
Where Things Stand Now
As of now, neither Shelbie Houston nor J Boog has issued a public apology or clarification regarding the comments. The video continues to circulate, and the criticism shows no signs of slowing down.
For a couple that was just being celebrated online, the narrative has shifted dramatically.
And many fans are saying the disappointment cuts deeper because the disrespect was directed at the very community that helped amplify them in the first place.
