Former Besiktas Istanbul manager Sergen Yalcin has backed Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to add the Super Lig Player of the Season award to his already impressive Turkish Football legacy after enjoying a sensational campaign on loan at Galatasaray, Footynaija.com reports.

Galatasaray recently completed an incredible domestic double, winning the Turkish Cup as well as the Super Lig crown just four days apart and Osimhen played a central role in delivering both trophies as he bagged a brace in the Cup final before notching the opener in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Kayserispor.

Osimhen’s impact for Galatasaray this season extends beyond those two games and is spread over the course of the season. The Nigeria international has established himself as a clutch player for the Lions, amassing 44 goal contributions in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Assessing Galatasaray’s achievements after they were confirmed as champions, Yalcin, who also enjoyed Super Lig success with Besiktas both as a player and manager, singled out Osimhen for praise, insisting that the Nigerian goal-machine deserves the Player of the Season award.

“I think the player of the season is Osimhen . It is very difficult to choose players from other teams anyway. If we were to form an 11, you would get at least 6-7 players from Galatasaray. You wouldn’t just get a right back and a left back,” Yalcin said in quotes revealed by habersarikirmizi.

Osimhen has also enjoyed a record-breaking season. He beat his personal best tally of goals scored in a single season, became Galatasaray’s highest scoring foreign player in a single season, and equalled Bafetimbi Gomis and Mauro Icardi’s best-ever tallies in a single Super Lig season. These exploits lend solid credence to Yalcin’s point of view.
