Keylor Navas, who spent five years as Real Madrid’s first choice between the sticks, is reportedly open to joining Barcelona as the Blaugrana find themselves in desperate need of a goalkeeper, Soccernet.football understands.
Barcelona’s need for a goalkeeper comes, following a serious knee injury to first-choice shot-stopper Marc Andre ter Stegen. The 32-year-old German was stretchered off during Barca’s win over Valencia and is likely to be out for the remainder of the season.
According to Italian sport journalist Fabrizio Romano via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Navas, who announced his international retirement in May, is open to joining the Blaugrana for the rest of the season.
The 37-year-old spent five seasons as Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper in La Liga, where he won the La Liga title in 2016/2017 and secured three consecutive Champions League titles under French manager Zinédine Zidane.
He then joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, winning three Ligue 1 titles while also lifting the Coupe de France trophy on three occasions and winning the Trophée des Champions three times before losing his place to a much younger Gianluigi Donnarumma.
According to L’Équipe, the Costa Rican, who remains without a club since departing PSG in May, is one of three goalkeepers being considered by the Catalan club to take over as the starting goalkeeper for the rest of the season.
The other options to replace Ter Stegen include 25-year-old Barcelona reserve keeper Iñaki Peña and 41-year-old Claudio Bravo, who previously played at Camp Nou between 2014 and 2016.
